Gitgit, Des'2009

Noise NO Lipstick

August 22, 2009, Ubud, Bali

Noise, grain, sand-like, or whatever you want to call it, that's caused by high ISO on camera, has proved to be a dillema for those who shoot photos with a camera. To accomodate it, camera manufactures are striving to minimalize noise in their latest generation of products. ironically, it is followed by the increasing number of creative worker who are using their camera to go against noise/grain.
This reality has been going on for generations, more so with the invention of digital cameras. Most people tend to shot photos with less noise rather than thinking & trying to present 'energy' to their artwork. There's a silent agreement that noise is a failure in photography world. Some people put it aside, only a few of them use noise in their piece, shyly, in order to add a classic touch to their photos.

Achmad Yani, as though wanting to convey his concern on the above phenomena by presenting his photography work in the mist of noise, deceptively screaming that noise can't hinder the expression of hihis photo objects. Spirit is spirit, expression is expression, moment is moment, which are not easily harmed by noise! in a country, a work without noise can never guarantee the godliness of the 'soul' in an object.

Achmad yani stands by an object's deepening process and is still holding on to his painting journey. For him, a beggar doesn't always have to be painted in shabby clothes, he belivies it's a shag & absolute comic technique. By bringing his feelings closer to a beggar's routinity daily, including carrying one's burden, a painter can bring a beggar's 'aroma' to life, although he's painting only a part of his arm! A woman who carries weight in the market won't get her burden lifted up by using a studio's lighting in the process, she also won't get her burden added up by taking her photo with noise!

The pieces presented here are a combination of noise and software, which screams louder that the noise from the camera is not even intense yet. Yani didn't do any digital touch up beyond that. He even did a very minimum cropping, leaving his objects presented the way they originally area. This is one of the point of interests from Achmad Yani's creative work, who is also a graphic designer.

Even, when asked about the feedbacks that he's bound to receive, Achmad Yani replied :
"I will treat them just as i treated noise in my soul space and movment in my right brain"

Enjoy the noise !!
